Snacking

I need to knock it off.  I've been munching all day.  Given, almonds are a pretty healthy snack, but I couldn't stop shoving them in my mouth.  I ate half a container of them.  I'm experiencing the same thing now with some baked cheddar lays.

I don't know if my body is responding to stress or the cold (since I don't have any heat in my car).  Maybe I got a visit from the metabolism fairy overnight.  In any case, I need to quit munching.

What do you do to curb your appetite?

  1. I find having protein with my meals and snacks really helps as does eating complex carbs and lowering the simple carbs!

  2. I say "Stop" out loud and put away the container. I also try to be very, VERY present while I'm eating: if I'm truly hungry, I'll just address it with a small, complete meal, otherwise I make a point of trying to completely attend to what I'm eating and gauge my satisfaction.

  3. Call someone and talk to them.

    Exercise.

    Get on your blog.

    Go out and do something.

  4. Drink...a lot of the time I find my munchies is just thirst in disguise.

Brush my teeth...because eating is nasty after minty freshness.

    Chew sugarless gum...it helps.

  5. I used to smoke. :(

Try drinking tons of water or chew on cinnamon flavored toothpicks.

  6. Paint your fingernails. It is very hard to eat when your nails are wet! Okay.... maybe that isn't the best option for you.

  7. I agree with the water. A lot of people mistake thirst for hunger.

If you feel as though you are just eating for the sake of eating ask yourself if you're actually hungry - when was the last time you ate? How much protein and fiber have you had that day?

Many times, I'm hungry even though I've eaten plenty - but I'm lacking in protein and fiber.

Boredom - do something, like practice your trombone - it keeps you entertained and it's physical 'activity'.

  8. Man, when you find out, please tell me what works for you. I've tried the whole drinking water thing and the brushing the teeth...and nothing. :)
