A Short One

Today is Star Wars day.  May the 4th (be with you).  Now that the lameness is out of the way, let's get on with this very short post.

Tonight I went into the kitchen to make a reasonably healthy and delicious dinner.  I made petite steaks with roast asparagus and baked potatoes.  Quite a tasty meal.  Here's the problem: I was snacking the whole time I was making the meal.  By the time dinner was ready, I was almost full.  Ugh... At least I noticed it.  Tomorrow night, there will be no snacking while I'm cooking dinner.

Time to go exercise.  It's day 4 of my May push.  Don't forget my Giveaway ends tomorrow!

When have you caught yourself snacking?

  1. Same here, making dinner :( Now I make a large meal for my family (there's 8 of them) and I make one meal for myself... double the temptation! But its getting better and like you said, your aware and that's half the battle:)

  2. So I usually try to eat every 3-4 hours, but i find around hour #2 I'm thinking about reaching for something. But for the last two days I've been doing really good-no candy, no snacks. It's been doing a lot better! Gum helps a lot!! :)

  3. When I cook for my family, I snack and taste. So by the time dinner is ready, I'm full. When I'm doing poorly, I eat dinner with everyone. When I'm doing well, I don't eat dinner. I sit at the table; I talk with my family; I drink water. But I don't eat anything. It's a little crazy, but it works.

  4. I snack when I'm watching TV or a movie; maybe a result of my junior/senior high school days - get home, microwave something, watch TV/eat.

I should play guitar if I need to keep my hands busy during a movie. That'd burn a couple calories too!

  5. I snack every monday morning, after my weekly weigh-in. How sick is that? I call it "Dark Monday".

  6. By the by, you're dinner was actually very healthful...why do you say "reasonably"?

  7. I snack while watching TV like most people, driving to and from Morris, when I get to dance early (they sell candy and chips and stuff... don't know why they sell such unhealthy stuff at a dance studio)

  8. Keep the snacks to vegetables. I keep some cut up and ready for cooking time. This way I get to still snack but I am making healthy choices.

  9. For some reason - i have trouble calling them petite steaks. steaks sounds manly - petite not so much.

I usually drink a lot of water while I am cooking. Makes for eating less, and full faster when it comes time for food.

  10. Dude, I stuggle with that all the time! MAybe I'll take Seth's advice (water does have fewer calories than whatever I could be cooking...ever).

ANd you're right. At least you caught it!

  11. I'm snacking right now and feel guilty about it. You are changing the way some people view food. A monumental undertaking. You are right- even ordering a salad can be a big step.

I get frustrated and disappointed when you stumble and I'll think "if he'd just X, Y or Z he would have been closer to his goal". I realize I am jealous; you are making such progress and many of us aren't ready to strive for our goals. Even though you make some less-than-ideal choices (and admit it!) I am rooting for you because we all need a hero.
