My Very First Workout Pledge

I talked about doing a workout pledge a while back.  I got (stole) the idea from 344pounds.com.  I decided since I'm going to start the 100 push-ups challenge on Monday, I want to do my workout pledge this week.

So here's how it works.  You have until noon on Friday to tell me how much I time I should spend exercising by doing any or all of the tasks I list below.  This time I'll be on the elliptical.

Post a comment: 15 seconds
A simple "good job" or "keep it up" is fine.  If you wanted to offer advice or ask for some, that's great too.  Every post counts, no matter how large or small.

Follow me on Facebook: 30 seconds
If you become a follower of 100 pounds in a year on facebook, you'll add 30 seconds to my workout.  If you look to the right, you'll see a facebook box.  Just click follow.

Follow me on Twitter: 30 seconds
Same as Facebook.  I often tweet things that don't make it onto my blog or Facebook.  My handle is 100_Pounds.

Subscribe to the RSS feed: 45 seconds
You'll have to let me know that you subscribed as I have no way of checking how many subscribers I have (that I know of).  Just email me.  Use the subject "Workout Pledge"

Link to my page: 1 minute
Link to me from Facebook, Twitter, your blog, Digg, etc.  You'll have to send me a link to your link so I know that you linked to me and so I can check out your site.

Donate $10 to any organization offering relief aid for the Haiti earthquake: 2 minutes
Text "HAITI" to 90999 and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.
There are also a number of other ways to donate.  See my link above for details.

Again, just let me know if you did this so I can add it to my time.

I'll be on twitter on my phone the whole workout.  You can join me live on Friday at 4:00pm.

I'm excited.  Let's do this thing.

Update: After tallying all the comments, subscriptions, follows on twitter and facebook, links, and donations to the Haiti earthquake relief, my total workout comes to 32 minutes even.  I'll be getting a slightly later start than I thought.  I'll leave for the gym at 4:00 and arrive about 4:10.  I'll get on twitter once I get started on the elliptical.

  1. If you check my blog, www.i_decrease.livejournal.com, you owe me 1 minute. This comment counts as 15 seconds, and since I am following you on facebook another 30. Bring it punk.

I don't know if you got my first comment about thedailyplate.com but it is a really good calorie counter it has really helped me I am currently down from 252 to 239.6. Trying to get down to 185. Sometime in the Spring we should do a 5k together and have a pint afterwards what do you say?

  3. I donated to Haiti bright and early this morning. I follow you on Facebook and Twitter. IF my math is correct, that is 3 minutes 15 seconds.

AND give me some time today and I'll be linking to you on my blog. Ever since you mentioned this I've been thinking of what I can write about to link to you :)

You better make my time the best time on the elliptical!

And just because Dan mentioned it in his comment, I would totally run a 5k with you this summer. ..But give me a heads up..I'll need to start running again :)

  8. Here's another 15 seconds! I think what you're doing is really amazing. There have definitely been days when I haven't wanted to go to the gym and knowing that you're making this commitment is really motivating. Keep up the good work!

  9. Just taking the steps is huge. Consider this a boost from someone you went to school with.

  13. Also, as your wife and attorney, allow me to personally comment to "anonymous" (plus this is an extra 15 seconds, bringing your workout time from me to 2 minutes).

    Dear "Anonymous,"
Listen jerk-face, no one is allowed to talk to Andrew that way, and I mean NO ONE. What he is doing here is amazing, healthy, motivating, impressive and wonderful. What are you doing? Being a jerk-face. I recommend that stop insulting people for bettering their lives. I would imagine that you are probably intimidated by Andrew's success here and the only way your little mind can deal with that is to insult him.
I thought about threatening 10 different lawsuits on your ass, but decided against it. Just know that no one here appreciates your comments or YOU. However, if you continue to contaminate this blog with your unwanted comments, I cannot promise I won't take some other action.
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Andrew Tralle

  14. I followed your blog from 344pounds, and am requesting... um... 15 seconds? Since I bet it's gonna add up fast. :)

As for Anonymous: hogwash, blatherskate, and all sorts of obscure invectives. Blogging isn't just for support, though you'll find lots of that here. It's great for tracking progress, and looking back to see how far you've come (which is a great feeling). Don't let inane insults get to you; keep blogging, and we'll keep reading and supporting!
